Pegasusraceteam together with Gruner Engineering, realized based on the 185 HP Erik Buell Racing 1190 RR-B Superbike, the prototype of an radical nakedbike. The bike had its first presentation at the 26th of November at the Essen Motor Show in Germany.
The developmentteam with Heiko Jessat and Jens Krüper builded a bike with winglets and air splitters to lead, at possible top speeds beyond 250 km / h, the air masses around the fork and frame. The rider got a more minimalized frontscreen in the size of the old Buell S1 bikes.
The detailed segmented radiateurcovers lead the way for the air into the right and left mounted EBR 1190 watercoolers and the in the bellypan located oilcooler. In the middle behind an optimized opening lying the doubleheaders of the front cylinder. Above the team designed an air intake mouth for the 1190 engines ramairsytem. The upperconnection of the unit to the frame is made with cornermounted airsplitters. At both sides of the bellypan Naca-ducts help to keep the exhausttemperatures down.
The coolers, wheels , frame, swingarm, tankcover, seat, exhaust and engine are taken from the stock EBR 1190 RR-B Superbike. So the bike will offer with 185 Rearwheel horsepower and 161 Kilo weight an outstanding performance.
Adittional loads of fine parts are used, like a BKG Triplekit and adjustable Clipons, the new Motogadget digital cockpit Motoscope pro, AST Suspension, Brembo masters with LSL reservoirs and Bridgestone tires.
The fenders at the front- and rearwheel also showing clear impressions of thinking about airtravelling and dynamic effects at high speeds. Like at the Moto 2 racebikes the lower forklegs are full covered.
The project was the teams first bike what came 100% out of the computer. All parts are constructed in Catia 5 by Gruner Engineering, they also afterwards produced with lasersinter technology inhouse the rapid prototyping parts they are used on the Typhon study.
Erik Buells statement about the 1190 Typhon: "EBR is working intensely right now on getting the new 1190RS Superbike model ready for production, which is consuming all our resources. We had been talking with our friends at Pegasus about our plans for a streetfighter model that would follow the 1190RS, and mentioning we could not work on it at this time. Pegasus asked if they could build a concept model to show, so we sent many CAD models over for them and our friends at Gruner to use to speed up the design process. They did a great job in a very short time!"
There is nothing already decided about the future of the concept, if there will be a productionbike that follow these ideas. For sure will be there some spin-offs from the Typhon study be used for some parts to rebuild the Buell XB1125R and CR models sold from buell-parts.com.
The Cockpitconcept with covers, triples, frontshield, digital gauge and double H4 lights will be available for XB and 1125 Buells. The lamp itself will fit backwards all XB Lightningmodels.
Meanwhile the Typhonproject goes into the detailing, the team start adittional work on parts for the watercooled Buells usable on road an track.
Stay tuned!
